Certain days were made holyโdiamonds
wedged into the dark ore of drudgery
so we migmht twinkle and remember
what we wanted never to forget.
We made them special
with our voices and our feet,
with song, dance, gifts,
beautiful vestments, roasted meat.
Not to mention drink
drunk to the point of hilarity
until no matter how we tried
to keep the thing, the thing
we wanted never to forget,
it slipped away again
while we were laughing, laughing
O so hard, we cried.

And hereโs a Christmas card to all my faithful readers with best wishes for the seasonโฆ
The video works if you hit “view original” below the black screen… :-)..and so does my correction of the word “might” in line 3….
Oh wow! I didnt know you back then Cynthia so this is a first read for me and what a fabulous take on this festive season, accompanied of course by your inimitable voice, talking of which, currently on TV there is an advert; I have no idea what it is advertising, although i expect it has embedded itself at some subliminal level to raise its head when Im spoilt for choice between two brands of something. That’s how they’re supposed to work I believe. Anyway I digress slightly.
A rather mysterious female American voice says, very slowly, at the speed you read your poems, “The door is closed” wirh emphasis on “closed”. I am certain it is you but I am equally certain it isnt!! So you see at this present time I am thinking of you at least three times every evening! ๐๐. Id love to know if the voice is from the same neck of the woods as you. .
And thank you for the most fascinating Christmas card. I hope you have a good Christmas whatever you are doing and I hope you get to make the Mushroom Timbale and ‘wow’ everyone with it ๐
That’s really spooky about the voice, Chris…but I’m quite sure it is not I ๐ Thank you for all your good wishes, and– -this season’s being a rougher ride for some of us than we might wish–Good Courage…Good Fortune…Good Thoughts….
You holiday words made me smile … and of course a huge grin for the video! Bestivus of holidays to you!!!!
PS: Copy/paste this this code into your post, and the video should be there:
Hi Frank…for some reason, WordPress won’t let me edit the re-blog, .only the original and the comments…but look!…here’s the video! It popped up from your comment!
And a most happy Festivus to you and the restivus too….
ah ha … Now I understand … yep … that’s the way it is.
The poem ? – wonderful. Haven’t listened to a single one that isn’t. So far, she said ominously … ๐
But, dearie……what’s in the black box???? I have been having a helluva time with media and editing on this ‘re-blog…..my idiot factor is definitely showing….
Question: is yours more pronounced than mine ?
There’s a blackout where your http:/snag.gy/CzkBu.jpg. should be, and it says “an error occurred, please try again later”…..ah..yes, I do believe so, there’s hardly a soul stupider than meself, when dealing with this stuff..though I have tried to unlock what you sent me here ๐ all to no avail…. ๐ฆ
Isn’t it nice, though….as in government, “an error occurred”….doesn’t say who exactly occurred it, so we’re both unshakeable…
Sorry me love: I was posting back to you what I saw on your previous post …
You are incorrigible…(fortunately). I’m taking back my Christmas card….
No: you’re taking back your black block with white message re error. {grin}
Now I see that I shall have to post sumfing similar. Maybe a white block with a black error message …?
Heh heh …
Watch it! I have friends in high places…Chuck Norris, fer instance…and he was hiding inside that black block on my post the whole time! (Actually, I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Norris thing at all…I can’t stop watching it!)
Is that what’s behind the video screen ? See, I’m not allowed to see it. [sob !] Every time I press the little red arrow I get that same black block with white writing. Is it just me …?
Enjoyed your poem, Cynthia – reminds me of holidays past. So true about “that thing we never wanted to forget”… ah, yes…. (I’ll attempt to view the video – my adobe seems to need updating, alas!)
Merry Christmas, happy Solstice and all the best for the New Year to you, Cynthia!
And a most happy season to you, Betty, and all good wishes for 2015! (I think you’d really like this bizarre video, so I hope you get to see it…) ๐
Thanks for reposting this, since I hadn’t read it before. Happy Holidays! Liked the card, too. ๐
Thank you, Sweetie, and a happy New year to you!
Thank you! Happy New Year to you, too! ๐
Delicious Cynthia. I’m glad you re-blogged it. There are things we swear to never forget and often do then there are those things we would love to forget and cannot.
I do believe some deviant techie troll has taken up residence in my computer and my being technically challenged does not help my situation.
Thank you for choosing to follow my French blog. I hope you continue to enjoy the posts. ๐ Lรฉa
Yes, I need to repair and polish up both my remembery and my forgetery for the new year! Thanks, Lรฉa…
Bonne chance Cynthia! It seems I am always struggling with that! ๐
Simply brilliant. ๐
Thank you for coming by, and for your encouragement, Nomzi. I will be over to visit your blog soon!
Super. You are most welcome Cynthia. I am so excited because I am discovering fantastic poetry blogs all of a sudden. New wind, new life. ๐
Another lovely and beautiful holiday poem, bringing back memories of past. Happy New Year Cynthia and best wishes for your book release – when can we expect to see it?
Thank you, again, dear Mary. My book is published! I”ve given it a special page of its own, above, where the blog pages are… ๐
I searched and found it – gorgeous cover btw. Will you sign my copy when I order it?
It will be my honor and pleasure!
Thank you ~
